Her Journey
Reverend Ida Gice-Smith’s journey Has been a tapestry of faith, leadership, and entrepreneurial spirit. Born with a calling that would later shape her life, Ida’s path was marked by a commitment to both spiritual and community service.
Her story began to unfold when she pursued higher education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. After years of diligent study and personal growth, she felt a deep spiritual calling that led her to be licensed to preach on March 20, 2011. This momentous occasion was just the beginning. On May 26, 2012, she was ordained into Gospel Ministry by the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains (ABCRM), a milestone that cemented her dedication to spreading the word of God.
Ida’s ministry was not confined to the pulpit. At Unity Baptist Church in Bronx, NY, she served in multiple roles: as an Ordained Minister and Deaconess, a Youth Director guiding the younger generation, a choir member harmonizing with others to lift spirits, and the organizer of the Nurse’s Guild, providing care for her congregation. Her influence extended across the country to Union Baptist Church in Denver, CO, where she organized the Junior Nurses Guild, led the Youth Director program, initiated the Women’s Executive Program, and taught Sunday School. Through these roles, she nurtured her community’s spiritual and personal growth.
But Ida’s impact was not limited to ministry alone. With a strong business acumen, she had a successful career as a Licensed Account Representative with Met-Life Insurance Company. Even after retirement, her leadership continued to shine as she became the President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention Ministers’ Wives, where she supported and guided fellow ministers’ spouses.
Her dedication to continuous learning led her to earn an Expository Preaching Certificate from the E.K. Bailey Institute in Dallas, TX, and further her studies with Continuing Education Units from Virginia Union Seminary in Richmond, VA. These qualifications bolstered her ability to deliver powerful, insightful sermons that resonated with her congregation.
